Wendy Maruyama is an artist and educator and has been making furniture and sculpture since 1970. Her work is often inspired by extended residencies and visits to various countries, such as France, England, Japan and China.Recently, her work has been hitting closer to home and the heart: her Executive Order 9066 is influenced by personal and family history and addresses the incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans during World War II. The newest work, The wildLIFE Project addresses the problems of illegal animal poaching and the senseless slaughter of wild animals in Africa for ivory and animal parts for unfounded human maladies.

Kaori Fukuyama was born and raised in a small town in Japan where she first realized the magic of color and light in the rice fields, bamboo forests, and hills surrounding her home. Kaori creates a field of color and light with oil paint through seamless transitions across a wide range of hue and saturation. She is interested in capturing the radiance we encounter in everyday life but beyond its standard context, using a minimal and direct language to maximize the effect.

I am a multimedia artist and designer, working in metal, wood, fabric, paper, and digital media. I strive to achieve a sense of motion in my portraits and landscapes, depicting fleeting moments and dreams. I am most inspired by animals and plants, and these forms are present in all my work. Glashaus is a lively workplace and community, and I am excited to come here and create every day!
